Tickets go on sale for Edgewater’s Passion For Fashion Tomorrow! (September 1st)

The show has had a facelift this year after some excellent community feed back on previous years shows.

Nine of Wanaka’s fashion outlets, including: 47Frocks, Frost, Bella, Cherry, Structure for Men, BASE, Soul Clothing, Sassy Pants and Big Tums Little Bums, will be showing off this years styles and fashions from their unique perspective. Many great aspects of the show will remain and 2 new features have been added.

The new “Fashion Pioneers competition” has had a great deal of interest. New Designers from Wanaka, Otago and throughout New Zealand entered their own unique pioneering fashion designs. These are being judged now and the 10 finalists will be displayed on the catwalk, with the winner announced on the night.

There will also be a showing from 3 invitation designers. Two of these include Mr So&So and Soeur. The third will be announced on the night!

After the show we will continue the party with music and brand new trade stall area, ready for perusal. This gives the audience a chance to interact directly with shop managers as well as check out the clothes from the catwalk up close.

And finally, the BNZ Piggies for Fashion are back. For those who saw some of the incredible creations last year, they know that this is not to be missed.

This show is set to be better than ever! We’ve kept the same great ticket price of $25. Get your tickets tomorrow as this show will sell-out quickly!

For an entertaining night out tickets to the much loved showcase of fashion, style and design go on sale September 1st (tomorrow!) and are available as BASE in Wanaka.

Show Date: October 20, 2010

Time: 7:00 pm doors open!

Willowridge Wanakafest Food and Wine Fest.

A combined effort from 5 Wanaka vineyards and several of Wanaka’s top restaurants has created a food and wine fest to be held in conjunction with this years Willowridge Wanakafest.

For the first time, this is a solely Wanaka event. Only grapes grown in the Wanaka area and food prepared by local chefs will be involved. People will have the opportunity to head to Pembroke Park and sample some of our town’s top wines and foods, while listening to some relaxing music and socialising with friends.

The event has been largely driven by the Wanakafest community trust with help from Mount Maude wines and Rippon Vineyard.

“ We are really excited that this has come together and we truly believe that this has the potential to become a really big event, secured on our annual calendar” Laurel Morrison, Wanakafest event co-ordinator says.

“Wanaka is a fantastic place with so many wonderful facets, one of those being our amazing food and wine. This is our opportunity to show off how good we really are!

The Willowridge Wanakafest will be held on Labour weekend, October 23 and 24. The Food and Wine Fest will be on the Saturday the 23rd October from 11am until 5 pm. The vineyards that will be there will be Rippon Vineyard, Mount Maude Wines, Cardrona Terrace Estate, Archangel Wines and Drafters Gate. At the time of writing 2 chefs have been confirmed and several others are possibilities. At this stage chefs from Edgewater and the Landing will be showing off their talents.

There are many other great events going on over the weekend. The very popular Urban Downhill Bike race is back and will also be held on Saturday. There will be the Ruby Island Circus and of course Passion for Fashion.

The Fashion show is looking better than ever and will be held on Wednesday the 20th October.

The Stonewood Homes House build was a massive success. More than 200 people cam to the NO RESERVE house auction and the house sold for a great price.

All the proceeds from the auction will go to the Wanakafest Charitible Trust. These proceeds will be put towards a community project that everyone can enjoy.

Thank you so much for all the efforts from all those involved. It truly highlighted what a fantastic community Wanaka has.

Ideas for a Community Asset.

One of the ideas put forward is an adventure playground at Eely Point.

With the successful sale of the Stonewood Homes House Build House and planning for the 2010 festival underway, we now have plans to turn some of the proceeds into a community asset. The Wanakafest Community Trust is currently deliberating on what to create as a community asset and they would like you, the Wanaka community, to have your say.

During the 2009 Willowridge Wanakafest and associated Stonewood Homes House build some money was attained for the trust through the help and support of local builders and contracters, who gave their time, services, and products at heavily reduced cost or even for free. Subsequently, the festival was a success, the Stonewood homes housebuild house sold for a great price at an auction and so now it is time to give back to the community that gave so much..

It has to be physical… something that we can touch and see, it has to have a wide benefit to the community, it of course has to be based in Wanaka, and we would like to see it have a life expectancy of around 20 years or over”

Some options that have been tabled so far are: an adventure playground at Eely Point, a transportable trailer stage, a band rotunda at Pembroke Park and a water park as part of the dinosaur park at the lake front. The Trust is still settling the exact amount that will be available for the asset, and we are planning on doing additional fundraising to top up what we have raised so far. As a guideline, we are looking for a project around $100,000.
